Mariam Carey, MA
Mariam Carey is a psychotherapist, educator, and psychoanalytic clinician based in Maryland. She received her master’s degree from Northwestern University through its psychodynamic clinical program, where she developed a foundation in psychodynamic theory and practice. Her clinical work focuses on adolescents, adults, couples, and families, with particular interests in personality development, attachment, and relational dynamics.
Mariam’s approach integrates psychodynamic and psychoanalytic thinking with mentalization-based treatment, systemic, and experiential approaches. Her work with couples is informed by the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), with an emphasis on attachment, regulation, and the ways partners create safety and security within their relationships.
She teaches psychoanalytic theory and clinical practice in postgraduate settings, with particular interests in personality organization and the clinical application of psychoanalytic concepts. She completed the Child and Adolescent Fellowship and Candidate Seminar at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis and has pursued additional training in EMDR and DBT.
